Gallery 209, a part of the Artists and Makers Studios (A&M) art center, provides a venue for 19 local visual artists and sculptors to show their work through changing exhibits each month. Participating artists, each with their own unique style, use different media in their work: watercolor, oil, acrylic, encaustic, color pencil, ink, fiber, mixed media, collage, metal, wood, glass, and other materials.
With exhibits changing monthly in its 3 public galleries, A&M Studios provides studio space for 100 creative professionals. Gallery 209 occupies one of the public galleries. Artists with studios at A&M provide a display of works fitting a monthly theme in a second gallery. And the third gallery, provides a venue for select well-recognized guest artists from the metropolitan area.
A&M is also a place where people can take art classes. Many of the resident artists teach in their studios and Glen Kessler offers many classes in his large classroom, The Compass Atelier.
Gallery 209 and Artists and Makers Studios have become favorite destinations for the Washington area. Their award-winning artists produce interesting and dynamic shows—truly visual feasts—every month. Gallery 209 has been awarded the “Best in Rockville” Art Gallery Award for multiple years, and Artists and Makers Studios is a noted “Best in Bethesda” awardee as well.
The location is close to the intersection of Parklawn Drive and Boiling Brook Parkway in the White Flint area. The entrance is at the back of the building with plenty of free parking.
Open hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and opening receptions are First Fridays, 5 pm to 9 pm.
